Steve has had two professional careers. He was President and owner of Peters-de Laet, Inc, from 1973 to 2004. Peters-de Laet, Inc. was a national industrial distributor of parts and equipment servicing a wide range of industries covering the western United States. It was acquired in 2004.
In 2000, Steve founded PartsRiver, Inc., a software company which provides data quality management for large transportation companies. PartsRiver enables companies to generate significant cost savings by optimizing item master data complemented by web-based graphical visualization dashboards. It was acquired in 2015.
In 1998 Steve and Dianne de Laet founded The Arete Fund. The Arete Fund is a non-profit, charitable organization that supports education locally and acts globally to encourage greater cultural understanding by means of humanitarian, educational and artistic projects. Arete makes annual contributions towards the first year of college on behalf of needy and deserving high school seniors who exemplify Arete — an ancient Greek word for virtue and excellence — and in turn, seeks to rekindle its ancient meaning for the modern day as a means of fostering mutual respect and good will.
Dianne and Steve live in Menlo Park, California. They have two children, Elisa and Michael, and five grandchildren. He is an avid traveler, cyclist, skier, and musician.
Steve has a BA from University of Colorado and an MBA from the University of Santa Clara.
