Rodi Kratsa was born and brought up at the island of Zakynthos (Ionian Islands), Greece. She studied Sociology at the University of Geneva (Switzerland). Her postgraduate studies on European Integration followed at the Institute of European Studies of the same University. She has worked especially with research in the area of dialogue of cultures in Europe and the relations between Europe and the rest of the world.
She was elected member of the European Parliament in 1999 and re-elected in 2004 and 2009. She was elected 1st Vice-President of the European Parliament on 16 January 2007 and re-elected Vice-President on 14 July 2009.
Rodi Kratsa was President of the Konstantinos Karamanlis Institute for Democracy (2014-2017), designated by the then Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Antonis Samaras. With this capacity, she was an electedin 2014 member of the Board of the (ENoP) European Network of Political Foundations (based in Brussels) while promoting development and cooperation at international level.
LONG AND RICH EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE
Rodi Kratsa left a powerful mark in European policy for the strengthening of European integration such as the role of Europe in the international stage. Along this framework she played a key role in the strengthening of Euro-Mediterranean and Euro-Arab relations.
Responsibilities in the Bureau of the European Parliament as Vice-President (2007-2012)
Conciliation (negotiation with the Council for the final shaping of european legislation, in the framework of the co-decision procedure);Information and Communication Policy, Euromediterranean cooperation including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM), President of the PA-UfM Working Group on the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI),founded by the EU and Arab League.
Rodi Kratsa represented the European Parliament at high-level meetings such as the G8 Speakers' Conference in Tokyo (2008), the G20 Speakers' Consultation in Seoul (2011) and various Ministerial meetings.

Member of the Board of the European Centre of Culture (Geneva), Member of the Cultural Council of the Union for the Mediterranean (French Republic), Board Member of the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fès (Morocco). Founding member and President of the Women of Europe International Association (Brussels).
Active in the international and regional meetings of UNESCO(issues concerning education, the promotion of women and the cultural heritage), Active in the framework of the International Organisation of Francophonie, Participant in the parallel meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank and international fora in many places: Crans Montana Forum, Doha Forum (Qatar), WISE Forum (Qatar), Women as Global Leaders Conference (UAE), Education Without Borders (UAE), Festival of Thinkers (UAE), MEDays Forum (Morocco), Club de Monaco (on Mediterranean and Middle East issues), Women in Parliaments in Euro- Asia Meetings - Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, Euro – Arab Forum in Athens.
Rodi Kratsa has been elected Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands (Greece).
