Thanasis Vassilopoulos was born on July, 29 1970 in Kalamata and is the first child of the family with many members of Panagiotis and Anna Vasilopoulou.
He has four children and is married to Evi Papageorgiou.
Since 1992 he has been working as a freelancer in the field of importing and selling of car products.
He has been active in Local Government since 2010, when he was first elected as a City Councillor in the Municipality of Kalamata. During this period he has served the Municipality of Kalamata in various positions of responsibility, such as:
Vice Mayor of the Division of Cleanliness, Recycling and Depot
Vice Mayor of the Division of Geotechnical Services and Rural Development
Vice Mayor of Civil Protection
Civilian Head of the Department of Traffic and Transportation,
as well as Chairman and BoD member in various Legal Entities of the Municipality of Kalamata (Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Kalamata, Municipal Philharmonic Band, Sports Agency etc.).
He was elected Mayor of Kalamata for the first time in the 2019 local elections.
He was a member of the board of directors of the Solid Waste Management Body of the Peloponnese Region. Today he is vice president of the Regional Union of Peloponnese Municipalities.
His trade union activity is rich, as from an early age he was elected by his colleagues in the Federation of Professional, Industrial and Commercial Associations of the Prefecture of Messinia, which he served in various positions, serving in recent years as Chairman of the Board Federation. Elected representative of the business community of Messinia in the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen & Merchants (GSEVEE).
