Biography

Christos A. Karavitis Ph.D., Civil Engineering (CSU, USA), M.Sc. Agricultural Engineering (CSU, USA), Associate Professor Water Resources Management, Department of Natural Resources and Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural University of Athens, Greece, and Professor Affiliate in Water Resources Management, Dep. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO. USA. His research Interests include: Integrated Water Resources Management, Drought and Flood Management, Climate change and Risk Management, Water Resources and Environmental Management in stress conditions and Water Resources Management in times of crises (drought, desertification, floods), waste water works, water recycling, and reuse technologies, water desalination etc. His interests also include the information technology applications in water resources (expert systems, knowledge based and generally Decision Support Systems) and Trans-boundary water management etc. He has participated as research leader or project coordinator for more than 25 years in many educational and research projects in Europe (EC funded: CLIMATE CHANGE RISK ASSESSMENT OF CYPRUS, COROADO, DESIRE, DMCSEE, LOLaqua, IMAGE, MELIA, NOSTRUM, RAMFLOOD, ARID CLUSTER, DESERT- LINKS, AUTOHAZARD – PRO, WATERSTRATEGYMAN, PESERA, MEDALUS, etc) as well as in USA (NSF, NASA, USACE projects, etc.), Latin America, China, Asia and Africa. He is a full member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the Geotechnical Champers of Greece (member of the Central Advisory Board of the Geotechnical Champers of Greece for Hydraulic Works) and the International Water Resources Association (IWRA). Noted among others is his participation in some of the major water resources development projects in Greece in recent years including the Euenos dam for the water supply of Metropolitan Athens, the new Athens International Airport storm water drainage system, the Water supply dams of Patras Municipality, and the general layout of the 2004 Olympic Games venues of Athens Coastal Zone. Finally, since 1998 he is serving as an Expert and Evaluator for the European Commission. C. A. Karavitis has published many articles and studies in accredited international journals and conferences as well as, reports for the European Commission’s and National research Projects.
